Frequently asked questions
YOUR FIRST CLASS |
|
What should I wear?
For tricks classes: Please wear shorts and a sports vest or short-sleeved top to your class. The majority of pole moves require skin contact with the pole to be done safely, so please do not wear leggings. Socks and shoes are not worn during tricks-based classes.
For flow classes: There are no strict requirements for clothing in our flow classes although we highly recommend wearing knee pads. If you do not own knee pads, wearing leggings or over-the-knee socks can help to prevent injury. Wearing heels is completely optional, but please wear socks if not bringing heels to this class.
Please do not moisturise the day of your class! This will impact your grip and could lead to injuries. We also ask that jewellery is removed from wrists and hands to prevent damage to the poles. Changing facilities are available at our venue.
If you prefer to dress modestly, there are pole outfits on the market which aim to provide grip whilst keeping the body covered. We would be very happy to give recommendations on brands to consider.
Do beginners need to have a certain level of fitness/strength?
You do not need to have any level of fitness to start pole classes. Over time, and with each class, your general strength and fitness will improve. Our class syllabus has been tailored to allow a gradual increase in complexity as our students' ability progresses.
What do I need to bring to class?
We recommend that you bring a water bottle to keep hydrated during your class. You may also wish to bring a sports towel/cloth to wipe down your pole between moves, and grip aid if needed. However, communal grip aid and cloths will be provided for each class.

How are your classes taught?
Each of our classes are taught by one instructor. At any given class, there may be committee members present to assist in teaching. Our classes consist of a dynamic warm up, followed by the main contents of the class, and finishing with a cool down and stretching.
Are your instructors qualified?
All of our instructors are fully qualified, or are pending qualification for the appropriate class level they are teaching. OUPS instructors are trained using Spin City Instructor Training courses and assessments. All classes are covered by relevant insurance.
What is the maximum class size?
As of Michaelmas 2021, our class sizes consist of 2 students per pole, with a maximum of 16 students per class. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, our class sizes were a maximum of 3 people per pole.
Can I cancel my booking?
OUPS operates a 24-hour cancellation policy. Classes must be cancelled 24 hours in advance by the student via our booking system, and no-shows will be charged. Exemptions to the 24-hour policy are made at the committee's discretion for medical reasons and emergencies.
